General Description:

Pear shaped fruit with an average length of 8 cm.
Dark green with rough skin. Will usually turn slightly brown as it ripens.
Contains a large central seed, 3 to 5 centimetres in diameter.
Popular uses for Avocado are as a butter replacement or use as a dip with raw vegetables for a healthier alternative to chips and dip.


Selection:

Avocados go quickly from ripeness to over ripeness try picking slightly unripe ones.
Look for avocados that are dark green and hard. 
As they ripen they will brown slightly and become slightly soft to thumb pressure. 
Be wary of soft avocados are they may be over-ripe and no good for consumption.

Storage & Handling Information:

Store you unripe avocados alongside your bananas until your avocado is ripe and ready to use.
Once ripe you can remove the flesh by cutting the fruit in half lengthwise. You can then twist it open from here, the large seed easily comes out of one side, and all you have to do is push it out of the other side with a knife.
