General Description:

Covered by a thick rough skin pineapples contain a sweet yellow flesh.
Has stiff leaves on the top (crown).
Depending on size pineapples weigh from 1 - 2.2 kg.
Pineapples do not ripen further once harvested.


Selection:

Avoid green pineapples as they will not be sweet.
Also avoid those with soft or dark spots and mould.
A ripe pineapple will usually have a pleasant fragrance.
Ripeness can also be determined if one of the green spikes can be removed easily from the crown.
