General Description:

Large oblong or roundish shaped melon with a hard green rind.
Flesh is sweet & juicy with a grainy texture & will be either red or yellow in colour.
On average watermelons are 92 percent water.


Selection:

Watermelons dont ripen after harvest, so a watermelon is ready to eat when purchased.
A good watermelon will be firm, evenly shaped and will be heavy for its size.
A ripe watermelon will usually have a deep sound when slapped with an open palm.


Nutrition Information:

The darker the watermelon, the greater the quantity of carotenoids.
Watermelons provide dietary fibre & Vitamin C.
Also one of three major sources of Lycopene.
